A FOCUS ON ARCHITECTURE AND MATERIAL SELECTION

Set amid the tranquil surroundings and iconic dunes of Skagen in Denmark, Color Hotel Skagen is embarking on an ambitious expansion. Marking its largest investment in 20 years, the hotel is adding two new wings with a total of 32 hotel rooms. Balcony galleries will connect the buildings.

For this expansion, Color Hotel Skagen emphasized both architectural quality and material selection to ensure that the new additions harmonize with the surroundings and meet quality standards. Alongside quality, energy and environmental awareness were prioritized, focusing on durability and longevity.

Hi-Con will provide the project with balcony galleries, staircase treads and columns made from Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC). Our UHPC elements, known for their sleek and aesthetic profiles, support the architectural vision of the project while ensuring longevity and little maintenance.

PROJECT DETAILS

Hi-Con will deliver 17 prefabricated balcony galleries in nine different variations, 48 individual steps for three staircases, and three landing slabs – all made from UHPC CRC i2. The steps will be crafted with a non-slip surface for enhanced safety.

Additionally, the delivery includes 49 prefabricated columns to support the galleries, staircases, and roof overhangs, which are also produced in UHPC.

The choice of UHPC guarantees a lifespan of over 100 years and meets construction standards for high-quality materials. The slender UHPC elements also use less material than traditional concrete solutions.

The project is expected to be ready for handover in June 2025.
