THE LINE AND CONCERT HALL AMARE WIN THE DUTCH CONCRETE AWARD 2021

Two impressive Hi-Con projects have won the Dutch Concrete Award

HI-CON TOOK THE STAGE

The winners of the 2021 Concrete Awards have finally been announced after a six-month delay due to Corona. This took place during the Beton Event on Tuesday, June 14, at the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam.

Hi-Con Netherlands took the stage twice, both for the apartment complex The Line, which won the category "Grensverleggende Bouw" (Groundbreaking Building), and the concert hall Amare, which won in the category "Utiliteitsbouw" (Utility Building).

A double celebration!

AN EXCELLENT COLLABORATION

On behalf of the jury, Machteld Kors, Director of Strategic Development at UNStudio, presented the heavy (but not slender, as we are used to) concrete trophies.

The excellent collaboration at The Line, a prerequisite for achieving the award for the most Groundbreaking Building, was well illustrated by the entire stage during the award ceremony.

Orange Architects (Jeroen Schipper, Bas Kegge), Bouwbedrijf (Frank Klaver), and Hi-Con (Edward Verschoor, Coen Smets) proudly accepted the award. Not long after, Hi-Con was once again called to the stage, on behalf of the Concert Hall Amare team, to receive the award in the Utility Building category.

For Hi-Con, it is fantastic that both products (UHPC and GRC) have received a Concrete Award. We are proud to play a valuable and leading role in the concrete construction sector and thank our project partners with whom it has been possible to realize these amazing projects!

WINNER OF GROUNDBREAKING BUILDING: THE LINE

The Line is an elegant apartment complex with a delicate facade skeleton. The extremely slender balconies and columns in the facade are made of UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete).

Jury's motivation: "This apartment building has many special features, of which the architectural application of the Ultra High Performance Concrete in the ultra-thin balconies and columns is the most striking. This concrete application also saves CO2."

WINNER OF NON-RESIDENTIAL BUILDING: KONCERTSAL AMARE

Koncertsal Amare is the first large-scale application of GRC (glass fibre reinforced concrete) in the Netherlands. Jury's motivation:

"The jury appreciates this application of [glass fibre reinforced] concrete, which makes optimal use of the freedom of shape in concrete, the high aesthetic quality, the low mass, and the long lifespan. All this to achieve the most important in the design of a concert hall: good acoustics."

JCAU and NOAHH are jointly responsible for the overall design of Amare. JCAU designed the concert hall, evaluated the aesthetics, and approved the GRC elements.

Dutch Concrete Awards

The prestigious Dutch Concrete Award (Betonprijs) has been awarded every other year since 1979 to leading projects in the concrete construction sector with the aim of increasing knowledge and expertise throughout the Dutch concrete industry. These projects exemplify intelligent, responsible, future-oriented, valuable, and inspiring use of concrete.
