BALCONIES IN ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE

The balcony installation literally took off as the first eight balconies on Thor's Tower were installed by Sky-Work using their Rope Access solution. Due to deck limitations and minimal workspace between the balconies and the facade, this alternative solution was chosen over traditional lift and crane installation. Thanks to excellent communication between the Sky-Work installers and the tower crane operator, who impressively performed his work blindly, we successfully completed the installation of the first balconies on Thor's Tower.

When the construction is ready for occupancy in June 2021, it will feature 90 balconies in Ultra High Performance Concrete from Hi-Con mounted on the building's facade. The large balconies vary in size from 8 to 30 m², offering residents a spacious extension of their homes with room for garden tables, cozy corners, potatoes, and herbs. The balconies, cast at our production site in Hjallerup, are made of light CRC i2® Ultra High Performance Concrete with a plate thickness of 100 mm and 725 mm high balustrades.

ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE CRC I2® – UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES

When you use Ultra High Performance Concrete in your construction project, you are offered a lighter and slimmer solution than you would experience with ordinary concrete. This is because we use 50% less material than a corresponding construction in ordinary concrete.

The low weight of the elements means that fewer fasteners and smaller cranes are typically used during installation. At the same time, the building is less stressed, and you avoid complicated joints since the prefabricated balconies are delivered as a single element.

Moreover, Ultra High Performance Concrete offers a maintenance-free solution as well as a fire-safe construction that can be shaped and designed without limitations.

The flying installation will continue until the end of December, when it is expected that all Hi-Con balconies will be installed on Thor's Tower.

PROJECT DETAILS

Hi-Con is delivering a total of 90 balconies with parapets in 4 variants in our light Ultra High Performance Concrete. The balconies are designed with a slope towards the water channel and an embedded drain. The balconies measure approximately 80-100 mm with a depth of about 1750 mm.
