"You make something, on a building for which it was actually not intended," says Peter Niemer of Balkonfabriek. The former ING office, designed by architectural firm Broekbakema, dates from 1968. This striking, unmissable building in Arnhem has now been transformed into 281 apartments, from penthouses to owner-occupied and rental apartments. The delivery of all apartments is scheduled for 2020.
Hi-Con Nederland was proud co-maker from the start of this transformation project and has delivered a total of 230 balconies for High Park. In an intensive collaboration with client Balkonfabriek, KlokGroep, developer Borghese real estate and Powerhouse Company Architecture, we were closely involved in the entire process, from engineering and production, to advising the suspension construction and balustrades.
A beautiful, vacant office building has been given a second life. Due to the low weight of the slender balconies, it became possible to create large outdoor spaces for so many new residents. That would not have been possible with traditional concrete balconies.
The Hi-Con elements
Hi-Con has supplied the project with 230 balconies in grey CRC i2® measuring 3,1 meters in length, 2,1 meters in width and 10 cm in thickness.
