SKYLIGHTS WITH 1400 GLASS BLOCKS

For the Kvæsthus project in Copenhagen, Hi-Con supplied 54 skylights and 14 guard elements in Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) with round glass blocks. The skylights measure approximately 3.6 meters in length and come in three widths: 1.15, 1.55, and 1.95 meters, with a thickness of 100 mm. The supplied guard elements are 1.55 meters high and vary in width, with most being 1.95 meters and a thickness of 65 mm.

For the skylights, around 6,600 glass blocks were used, while 1,400 glass blocks were used for the guard elements. The glass blocks in the guards are custom-made, consisting of glued glass blocks with glass on two sides, cast directly into the element. In the skylights, the blocks are placed in a rubber sleeve and cast together with the elements. For sealing purposes, the tops were sealed after installation.

Additionally, six more skylight elements were purchased as a roof over the escalator.
