Surface and color options with ultra high performance concrete

CRC i2 is a unique material based on cement, and like traditional concrete and other natural materials, variations in color and texture are to be expected – and evolving over time. This contributes to the visual appeal of concrete, creating a dynamic and diverse appearance.

Similar to other cement-based materials, CRC i2 is heterogeneous and porous, though with less variation and very low porosity due to its special composition. However, slight variations in color and texture, including possible efflorescence and nuanced differences, may occur during the production of CRC i2 elements.

While UHPC typically has a natural gray color, the concrete can be customized with various pigments to achieve the desired hue. At Hi-Con, we primarily use a light gray or gray concrete base. If you prefer a natural color, a gray concrete base works well, but for more vibrant colors, a light concrete base is the optimal choice. Colored concrete offers greater design flexibility and the ability to create harmony and coherence with surrounding structures and environments. The result is visually impressive buildings that leave a lasting impact.

When it comes to coloring concrete, there are some important factors to consider. Firstly, efflorescence is more noticeable on dark surfaces than on light ones. Earthy tones should be chosen over bright colors, as they are easier to achieve. Additionally, shade variations may occur due to material properties and the production process.

It's also essential to note that colored concrete may fade over time due to weathering. If you desire a specific and consistent color tone on the concrete, opting for a painted surface is recommended. However, it should be noted that a painted surface will affect the texture of the concrete surface and require ongoing maintenance.
